Róbert Rapčan, MD, FIPP, Medical Director EuroPainClinics® certified interventional pain management specialist. One of Europe's leading specialists in the treatment of pain using special intervention techniques. Dr. Rapčan is the driving force behind the introduction of innovative therapeutic methods and techniques, special methodologies, and the latest medical technologies into the clinical practice of EuroPainClinics®. As an advocate of state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, he actively participates in shaping the vision and strategy of EuroPainClinics® and maintains its notable reputation nationally and internationally.

MEDICAL EDUCATION & CAREER HISTORY

The professional career of Dr. Rapčan is connected with his many years of experience in numerous leading European medical clinics, where he has held a number of key positions. With his profound expertise, he has also been actively involved in the development of the field of interventional pain management and intensive care medicine. Besides his activities at EuroPainClinics®, Dr. Rapčan has been a consultant at the Intensive Care department at Hudiksvall General Hospital in Sweden since 2010. From 2005 to 2010 he served as head of Anaesthesia and Pain management at Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre in the UK. In this role, he applied his competence in the area of clinical management. After being appointed Medical Director of Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre in 2008, Dr. Rapčan was responsible for the design and implementation of integrated clinical pathways. The training of his specialised theoretical and practical skills can be partially attributed to the time he spent in Sweden, where from 2000 to 2005 he worked as a consultant in the Intensive Care Unit at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå.

Dr. Rapčan completed his medical degree at the Medical Faculty in Martin, Slovak Republic, in 1993. Following his graduation he worked as a medical resident in the Intensive Care unit at St. Jacob’s Hospital in Bardejov, where he completed his specialty training in Anaesthesiology and Intensive care in 1998. He also completed a number of study programs and internships, namely at the University Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Vienna General Hospital (AKH).

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Dr. Rapčan, MD, FIPP, is the Founder and President of the Slovak Society for Interventional Pain Management (SIA). He is an active member of numerous national and international associations and institutions such as the International Spine Intervention Society (SIS), the World Institute of Pain, the International Neuromodulation Society, the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia, the Slovak Society for Studying and Treating Pain (SSSLB), as well as the Polish Society for Interventional Treatment of Pain.

RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dr. Rapčan is the author/co-author of more than 20 professional and scientific papers published in national and international scientific journals. He regularly contributes expert opinions and reviews on the topics of intensive medicine and pain management in professional journals. He participates in many national and international congresses and symposiums, both in the role of organizer and active speaker. Dr.Rapčan acts as the reviewer of the specialized journal, Pain Ukraine.

PERSONAL LIFE

In his spare time, Dr. Rapčan devotes his time to his family. When he has the chance he is always happy to return to his favourite sports, particularly running, cycling, swimming (triathlon), and martial arts.
